The Best Time to Visit Hurghada in 2026 (Month-by-Month Guide)

Hurghada is a year-round destination, but the experience changes a lot between January and August. This guide breaks down each month by what you'll actually feel on a boat trip, in the desert or on a hotel beach, so you can pick the window that fits how you want to spend the days.
The quick answer
If you just want the headline: March to May and September to mid-November are the sweet spots. Warm enough to snorkel without a wetsuit, not hot enough to ruin the desert safari, and a few hundred euros cheaper on flights than peak summer or Christmas week.
Weather and sea temperature at a glance
- January-February: Air 14-22 C, sea 21-22 C. Cool evenings, calm water. Wetsuit recommended for snorkeling.
- March-April: Air 17-27 C, sea 22-24 C. The classic spring window. No wetsuit needed for most.
- May: Air 22-32 C, sea 24-26 C. Summer is arriving but not punishing yet.
- June-August: Air 26-37 C, sea 26-28 C. Hot. Desert excursions are tough at midday.
- September-October: Air 24-33 C, sea 27-28 C. Warmest water of the year and dropping temperatures on land.
- November: Air 19-27 C, sea 24-26 C. Last comfortable diving month before winter.
- December: Air 16-23 C, sea 22-23 C. Cool, sunny, often windy. Christmas week is the busiest week of the year.
If you came mainly for snorkeling and boat trips
Go in April, May, September or October. Water is warm, visibility on the Giftun reefs and Orange Bay is typically 15 to 25 meters, and the wind drops enough for the boat ride out to feel smooth. Orange Bay, Hula Hula and Dolphin House all run year-round, but spring and autumn give you the most reliable conditions.
If you came mainly for diving
Best months are March to early June and September to November. Water sits around 24 to 28 C, no thick wetsuit needed, and the reef life is at its most active. Beginners doing Discover Scuba Diving for the first time will be more comfortable in these windows than in deep winter.
If you came mainly for the desert safari
Go October to April. The desert plateau hits 40 C plus in July and August, which makes the quad-bike portion of Super Safari uncomfortable and the dinner sweat-soaked. Winter and shoulder seasons are perfect: warm sun by day, sweater weather around the fire. The Stargazing Safari is most rewarding when the moon is small and the air is cool, which is October through March.
If you want fewer crowds
Avoid Christmas and New Year week (the single busiest week), Russian Easter, the European Easter holiday, and mid-July to mid-August when European school holidays peak. The quietest months are late November, January (except first week), and mid-May to mid-June.
If you want the best price on flights
Flights from Western Europe to Hurghada are cheapest in January (after the first week), February, and the first half of November. Trip prices on our side don't change much month to month, but hotels do raise rates during Christmas, Russian New Year (early January) and high summer.
A word on Ramadan
Ramadan in 2026 runs from mid-February to mid-March. Tour operations continue normally and all trips run as scheduled. The only practical difference is that some local restaurants in the city centre close during the day. Hotels, boats and tour kitchens all serve full meals as normal.
Month-by-month verdict
- January: Quiet, mild, cool sea. Great for safari, marginal for snorkeling.
- February: Same as January, slightly warmer second half.
- March: Excellent all-rounder. Air, sea and prices all friendly.
- April: Peak shoulder. Best balance of weather and price.
- May: Hot starts, perfect water. Last comfortable safari month.
- June: Hot. Boats fine, safari only at sunrise or sunset.
- July-August: Hottest months. Avoid for safari, go for the sea.
- September: Warmest sea of the year. Top diving month.
- October: Best month overall for most travellers.
- November: Lovely shoulder. Pack a thin layer for evenings.
- December: Cool and bright. Christmas is busy and expensive.
