Hurghada travel guide
Strong wind or a marina closure can wipe out the sea trips for the day. Here is what still runs, and how we rebook your sea day for free.
Hurghada's marina sometimes closes for safety when the wind picks up - usually in spring (March-May) and winter (December-February). On those days the boat trips don't run, but the desert, the spa and a handful of land-based activities still go ahead. If your sea trip is cancelled by weather, we move you to another day for free or refund you in full.
Not the best fit if
If you're already seasick or struggling with vertigo, the desert quad bike won't help - it's bumpy. Pick the spa or a city walk instead.
The desert plateau east of Hurghada is unaffected by sea wind. The Super Safari combo (quad bike, sandboarding, camel, Bedouin dinner) and the shorter quad-and-sunset safari both run on closed-sea days. Expect bumpy roads and dust; wear closed shoes and bring a light jacket for after sunset.
An evening desert program that swaps the sunset for a stargazing stop with a telescope or a guide pointing out constellations. Good fit for a closed-sea day, especially with kids over six.
A two-hour ride that crosses dunes and a stretch of beach. Open to beginners with a guide alongside the whole time. Not suitable for pregnant guests or anyone with serious back issues.
Yala Spa offers aromatherapy, deep tissue, Cleopatra honey scrub, Moroccan hammam, manicure, pedicure and a deep facial cleanse. These are wellness services for relaxation, not medical treatments. Hotel transfer is included.
The El Mamsha promenade, the Marina boardwalk, Senzo Mall and the Hurghada Grand Aquarium all stay open. Useful filler for a half day while waiting on a forecast.
A private speedboat sometimes still runs when the larger day boats don't, depending on the captain's read of the conditions. Worth asking us on WhatsApp on the morning of the day.

Rain is rare around Hurghada. We've had to cancel a handful of desert trips over the years for dust storms (khamsin), not rain. If it's cancelled, the rebook/refund rules are the same.
